Sample Comment Letter to IDNR

We suggest the following format:

1. PERSONAL COMMENT

Introduce yourself and frame the context for your concern, for example:
“I saw the allowable pollutants in the Hycast Foundry Title V Operating Permit and am concerned about the carcinogens being released into our air. I live less than a mile downwind from the Foundry.”

2. INCLUDE A REQUEST FOR COMPLIANCE WITH ANY ONE (OR ALL) OF THESE:

NOTE: The 102 Public Comments on this RESOURCE page describe technical concerns that could be included with each of these (numbered examples):

  • Mitigation – update the safety and filter systems within and outside the foundry of hazardous air pollutants (HAP)
    • 35 Mitigations Absent, 61 Aging Control Equipment
  • Measurement – demonstrate in and around the foundry that there are lower levels of pollutants of hazardous air pollutants (HAP), at least to Clean Air Act standards
    • 18 Stack Testing, 32 Bag Leak Detection
  • Monitoring – establish verifiable systems to track pollutants and Particulate Matter (PMs)
    • 13, 23: Ambient Air Monitoring
